The incident occurred in Rockland County around 12:10 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, in Tomkins Cove.
According to Stony Point Police Lt. Daniel Schoales, responding officers located a vehicle matching the description on Mott Farm Road.
Schoales said that when police attempted to stop the car, the driver refused to stop and fled eastbound at a high speed.
He added that officers lost sight of the vehicle but came upon it shortly after, engulfed in flames, down an embankment.
As they approached the vehicle, a 15-year-old from Manhattan got out of the car and surrendered to police.
Stony Point Fire Department was dispatched to the scene.
Numerous agencies responded to the area to assist Stony Point Police with the search for the other suspects.
After a thorough search of the area, using a Haverstraw Police drone, Rockland County Sheriff's Office aviation and K-9, and Ramapo Police Department's K-9, Sekou Touray, age 18, of the Bronx, was taken into custody along with two other men.
Schoales said the two men were interviewed by detectives and released without criminal charges.
Touray was charged with:
- Grand larceny
- Petit larceny
- Endangering the welfare of a child
He was released on an appearance ticket. The juvenile, who was not identified due to his age, was processed and released to a family member.
No injuries were reported in the crash.
This investigation is ongoing, and the police are looking for at least one more suspect, Schoales said.
